FIFE GOLF TRUST (FGT) has performed solidly in its first year of operation. Today (Tuesday 27 November), Councillors on the Education, Social and Communities Scrutiny Committee noted a good performance of Fife Golf Trust in 2011/12.
During 2011/12, FGT recorded over 116,000 rounds of golf at the five 18 hole golf courses, this is an increase of 6% on the previous year. Golfing income for the same year totaled £687,000; this is an increase of 11%. The main factors contributing to this increase were a 17% increase in ‘pay as you play’ business and a 18% increase in our play all 7 courses – ‘Rover Ticket’. More Fifers are realising the great value and flexibility in our Rover Ticket.
Fife Council in partnership with FGT made a modest investment into the golf courses within 11/12 mainly focused on improving drainage. But over the next two years Fife Council is investing over £700,000 in major improvements to all 7 courses. This will enable FGT to continue to significantly improve the quality of the golf courses and ancillary facilities.
Cllr Susan Leslie, Chair of the Education, Social and Communities Scrutiny Committee commented: “FGT annual report highlights the wealth of really positive news for the Trust this year.
“It really is going from strength to strength despite tough economic times and is delivering what Fifers want. It’s also great to see an increase in the number of rounds played as well as the popularity of the Rover ticket.”
Alistair MacGregor, Chief Executive of FGT said: “I am delighted with the start we have made in 2011/12; we exceeded our expectations. Good partnership working with Fife Council, the support of our local clubs and the expertise provided by our directors has been vital in this first year.
“We have ambitious plans for the future of our golf courses which will enhance the golfing experience for our existing customers and encourage more people to take up the sport.”
